Greenfield Probate Court Records
Greenfield probate court records are filed and maintained by Hancock County, not the city of Greenfield. Since Greenfield serves as the Hancock County seat, the county courthouse is located right in the city, and the Hancock County Circuit Court handles all probate matters there. This includes wills, estate administrations, guardianship petitions, conservatorship cases, and trust filings for all Hancock County residents. You can search Greenfield probate court records online through Indiana's MyCase portal. For certified copies or in-person assistance, visit the Hancock County Clerk's Office at the Greenfield courthouse during regular business hours.
Greenfield Quick Facts
Which Court Handles Greenfield Probate
There is no city probate court in Greenfield. Probate is handled at the county level in Indiana. All estates, wills, guardianships, and related matters for Greenfield residents are filed with the Hancock County Circuit Court. Since Greenfield is the Hancock County seat, the courthouse is located in the city itself, making access easier for local residents.
Indiana Code IC 29-1-7-1 requires that probate be filed in the county where the decedent resided at the time of death. For Greenfield residents, this means Hancock County. The Hancock County Circuit Court, presided over by Circuit Court Judge Scott Sirk, handles probate alongside civil, criminal, and family cases.
Do not contact the Greenfield City Clerk for probate matters. The city clerk handles municipal records like council minutes, local ordinances, and limited vital records. Probate filings go to the county clerk at the courthouse.

Search Greenfield Probate Records Online
Hancock County offers two ways to search probate records online. The first is through the statewide MyCase portal. The second is Doxpop, a court records service that Hancock County uses in addition to Odyssey.
The Hancock County public records search page links to both tools, and you can also access records directly through the Indiana courts portal.
The MyCase portal at public.courts.in.gov is the primary free option. Search by party name, attorney, or case number with Hancock County selected. Probate estate cases typically show up as case type "ES" and guardianship cases as "GU." Most active case documents are available to view at no charge.
Doxpop at doxpop.com offers an alternative search interface and may include additional historical records. Doxpop is a paid subscription service for some features, though basic searches may be free. Hancock County is one of the few Indiana counties that maintains records on both platforms.

Probate Filing Fees in Greenfield
Indiana sets probate fees by statute, so Hancock County follows the same schedule as other Indiana counties. The standard filing fee is approximately $177, based on the Probate Costs Fee of $120 set under IC 33-37-4-7 plus additional court fees.
Copy fees are $1 per page under IC 33-37-5-1. Certification adds $3 per document under IC 33-37-5-3. Child support payment printouts are billed at $1 per year rather than per page. The clerk's own website notes these rates directly: "$1 per page (Court Cases); $3 per certification of document."
Fees can change over time as the legislature updates the statutes. Before filing or requesting copies, confirm current fees with the clerk at (317) 477-1109.
